You’re looking at a trachea, which was part of the world’s first synthetic organ transplant (done in Sweden). What’s better is that this organ was grown from the patient’s very own stem cells. They guy’s own stem cells!
There’s a lot of debate about stem cell research in the US, but I think that’s mostly because there’s this general misconception that stem cells only come from embryos. If only others would realize the things that can be done with stem cells! Go here, here, and/or here for more!
